THE ANGRY BIRDS
To create our eight 3D creatures, we used images provided by the client and the feature film released in 2016. We started with polystyrene blocks cut to the correct dimensions which we then laboriously rounded into our desired shape using a metal rasp. The whole was covered in render and sanded down to a smooth finish. The eyes were then carefully sculpted on with that same material. We later spray and hand painted the final birds to bring the character to life.
THE EAGLE
Towering at three meters, this eagle was no small feat. Although it required a lot more time and structural integrity than the angry birds, the process was roughly the same. A large block of polystyrene was cut down using an electrical wire cutter. The eagles's wings, head and feet were added on using expanding foam and shaped using metal rasps. The whole was later rendered and the details beautifully sculpted on.
THE PIGLETS
The rest of the creatures were are carved, sculpted and painted using the same technique as the eagle. We could not be more pleased with their outcome.
