Commissioned by Early Hours for their "Chelsea In Bloom" installation as an homage to Vivian Westwood, spring 2022.
THE RAINBOWS
With the rainbows eventually being covered in flowers, our aim was to create a polystyrene frame with upside-down bunting. For the wooden base, we wanted to repurpose some of our many, many sheets of scrap MDF, which was a fun puzzle to solve. The shape was measured out, labelled, cut out and then placed strongly back together with some flat brackets. We then sandwiched the rainbow with two big pieces of polystyrene and let them dry overnight. The bunting was then hand-painted with some tartan - in reference to Vivian Westwood - and the Union Jack.
THE CAKES
These lovely cakes were created using store-bought cake moulds filled with expanding foam. They are then individually painted with acrylic using an air brush and sealed with high-gloss varnish.
VIVIAN WESTWOOD
Vivian was stunningly carved out of super sculpey clay and later mounted on a mannequin body.
